Article One Without You I’m Not Alright - Colors and Sounds

Still touring this spring with the newsboys on the GO Tour, this talented group from Canada has been building a strong following since the release of their first album. From the internet, live shows and showcases at GMA week, They have received rave reviews from fans and industry people alike - myself being one of them, as I was lucky enough to catch them opening for the newsboys this year.

With their upcoming sophomore album Colors and Sounds, Article One will be bringing a more mature sound mixed with their high energy pop/rock signature.

In a recent interview with lead singer Nathan Piche, he explained what we can expect from the new sound of Article One with their latest, Colors and Sounds.

“Our first record was very straight forward pop/rock. The sound was very clean,” Nathan explains. “Our goal for Colors and Sounds was to keep the pop/rock accessibility of the first record, but to add things that were more artistic, such as emphasizing Matt’s violin because it is so unique. More than just a collection of songs, I think this record has a lot of cool moments and textures.” - Nathan

This new sound comes across right away. In listening to “Without You (I’m Not Alright)” the first single off of Colors and Sounds, the rock guitars with the violin melody from the start, builds layers for a fuller, deeper experience. Drawing from their musical upbringing and inspired by but not duplicating some of the artists they admire, Article One has matured their sound and become more comfortable in expressing themselves. You can hear the honesty in the lyrics of their songs reminiscent of U2’s Bono from whose speech on Universal Human Rights inspired them to find their name.

“Bono was talking about the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and what it meant… and we were like ‘Hey, is there any way we can use this?’ We looked [the Declaration] up and article one [of the Declaration] talks about how everyone is born equal and how we should all be treated equally,” Nathan explains. “We loved the message it had, so we decided to use it for our name. Not only does it sound good, but it brings more meaning to what we do. It’s another way we remind ourselves that Jesus calls us to love others (Mark 12:31). Whether we’re hanging out with friends after a show or explaining how our audiences can help the world’s poor, it’s important for us to remember that God’s called us to more than our guitars.”

With the brothers Matt and Nathan writing most of the album, an all star team of Tedd T. (with producing and writing credits on Colors and Sounds) and contributing writers like Dove Award winner Cindy Morgan, the album is positioned to bring powerful tracks from the moment you press play.
