Calvin Nowell - Open My Heart - Video On Billy Graham Special
CALVIN NOWELL VIDEO PREMIERED ON BILLY GRAHAM TV SPECIAL MAY 31ST-June 8th
Worship Recording Artist’s Debut Album “Start Somewhere” Continues To Garner Attention
(Nashville, Tenn.) April 28th, 2008 – Worship recording artist Calvin Nowell and his “Open My Heart” music video premiere will be featured on the upcoming Billy Graham TV Special that airs this May 31st through June 8th nationwide.
Nowell’s “Open My Heart” is from his current debut album Start Somewhere and continues the momentum that has garnered him attention as both a speaker and vocalist.
The Billy Graham TV Special, “Longing for Change,” highlights inspiring stories of people who searched for change in the wrong places, and finally discovered that lasting change comes only through knowing Jesus Christ.
Nowell’s own testimony is one of change as just a few years ago he weighed in at over 450 pounds with a 60-inch waist. His life was dominated with feelings of fear and insecurity. Nowell comments, “A lot of times when you have a vision, you are passionate about it, but you also need discipline. I had a vision about how God was going to take my misery and make it ministry. The very thing that held me back was going to be very thing God would use not only in my life, but in the lives of others.”
The songs on Start Somewhere encapsulate Nowell’s own journey of change, including the song “Open My Heart” which is the featured video on the Billy Graham TV special. The song, co-written by Nowell prior to the weight loss, ended up being a prompting step to finally lose the weight. “I felt the Lord was telling me ‘you just need to open up and let me in to some of those places.’ When I did – here I am.”
“I open my heart for Your love to come in,
and reveal all the places of darkness and sin.
My arms are open wide; I am ready to be free.
Where’s there’s sorrow and shame, let Your healing begin.
Come and take me to places that I’ve never been.”
Nowell, who has toured and recorded with the likes of Michael W. Smith, Michael McDonald, CeCe Winans, Vince Gill, Fred Hammond, Nicole C. Mullen, The Katinas, and Israel Houghton, has seen widespread recognition with the debut of Start Somewhere including TV exposure on CBN’s 700 Club and Trinity Broadcasting Network. He will also be featured in this year’s Fred Hammond movie “Christmas, Who Needs It?” Nowell’s hit-song “Unrestrained” has been recorded by several major recording artists including a duet version with CeCe Winans and Nowell on the forthcoming PureSprings Gospel release. The song can also be heard on Mandisa’s True Beauty debut, as well as EMI Gospel’s Myron Butler and Levi’s Stronger. In addition, churches across the U.S. are adding the song to their Sunday morning worship sets. A free download of “Unrestrained” is available starting June 1st at www.calvinnowell.com.

I loved the special and the testimonies. Only God can make the changes that happen in our hearts through the blood of Christ and we cannot continue in them unless we allow The HOLY Spirit to be the guide and ruler of our thought and actions. The song by Calvin Norwell was awesome. The music was not too loud and his words were clear and delivery perfect. Too much of today”s music is so loud that it just drowns out the message of the words in the song. Thank you so much for telling the world what a change Jesus can make in any of us, not matter how bad we think we are. I believe it is the message that causes change, not the music.
Calvin, I was watching a Billy Graham special yesterday on channel 11 when I saw you clip of the song Open my heart. What an annointing, what a vioce and what a conviction that brought to me. I usually not spend any time on the internet but after hearing that song, i had ot find out more about you.
I pray that the desires of your heart will be met speedily and wholly by God. I pray that you will continue to evangelise with your vioce, becuase you certainly spoke to me through your music last evening and I am touched.
Remain humble
God bless you
