(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Aug. 28, 2008—Dove Award-winning singer/songwriter Matthew West announces the fall 2008 “Something To Say” tour with special guest, Sparrow Records’ newest talent Josh Wilson. The tour, to be sponsored by World Vision with additional promotion from HearItFirst.com, will visit 25+ cities through the middle of November.

Just prior to recording Something to Say last year, West was diagnosed with a serious vocal chord injury that required major surgery. Following the procedure in May 2007, he entered a 2-month period of complete silence. It was during this time, while sitting in church one Sunday, that West’s pastor quoted C.S. Lewis: “God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains; it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.” This quote so resonated with West that he made it the central theme of his latest project, released in January 2008, as well as the forthcoming tour. He comments, “God is at work in every circumstance of our lives…even the silence. He wants to take the part of our lives we consider damaged goods and turn it to good.”

In addition to great music, the tour will feature clips from, “Nothing to Say,” a DVD documenting West’s journey through surgery and recovery. Also unique to the tour is media partner HearItFirst.com, who has pledged its support through e-mail notifications to members, a site-skinning promotion, tour page, and exclusive content including video updates from the road. A current list of tour dates follows this release.

“I can’t wait for the ‘Something to Say Tour’ to begin this October,” says West. “I know many people have only heard my music on the radio, but never in a live concert setting. This fall, all that will change. My hope for this tour is that our concerts will be more than just another show, but an experience that takes the audience on a journey. We are also teaming up with World Vision to give all who attend the concerts something to say about helping children in need all over the world. I hope you won’t miss this ‘something to say’ experience!”

“World Vision is so excited to be partnering with Matthew on the ‘Something to Say’ tour,” says Ben Greene, artist representative for World Vision. “His heart and passion for the most vulnerable children of the world is contagious, and we know that all in attendance will receive an experience to remember.”

West catapulted onto the Christian music scene in 2003 with his debut single, “More,” which was the most played Christian AC song of 2004. The multi-Dove Award nominee and sought-after songwriter released two critically-acclaimed recordings, Happy (2003) and History (2005); has been a mainstay at Christian radio with memorable hits like “Only Grace,” “History” and “Next Thing You Know”; and has toured with such artists as tobyMac and Jeremy Camp on the wildly popular 2008 “Boomin Beyond Measure” tour. In addition, West has penned songs for Rascal Flatts, Billy Ray Cyrus, Natalie Grant and Mandisa, among others. West’s third studio recording, Something To Say, released January 15, 2008 and debuted on Nielsen SoundScan’s Christian Retail Chart at #10, while West was the best-selling Christian artist on iTunes the week of its release. The album’s debut single “You Are Everything” additionally peaked at No. 1 on Christian AC radio and its present single “Something to Say” is currently in the Top 10 at AC radio.
Josh Wilson is a singer-songwriter from Lubbock, TX. Growing up in the church his dad pastored, Wilson was involved from the get-go. He learned piano and guitar at a young age which allowed him to lead worship for the youth group. After high school, Wilson moved to Nashville to attend Belmont University. While at Belmont, he won the Christian Music Showcase his junior year. Some record executives from his now label, EMI - Sparrow, were in attendance and amazed at his ability to “loop” his guitar. He signed a record contract with EMI - Sparrow in June of 2006, one month after he graduated from Belmont. His major debut album is titled, Trying To Fit The Ocean In A Cup. The album’s current single “Savior, Please” went for adds at AC and CHR radio on Aug. 22.

World Vision is a Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children, families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.

While my list of favorite bands and artists grows ever longer, there is one man who has remained at the top since his solo album debut in 2003—that man is Derek Webb.

By Amy Sondova(Backseatwriter.com) While my list of favorite bands and artists grows ever longer, there is one man who has remained at the top since his solo album debut in 2003—that man is Derek Webb. She Must and Shall Go Free rocked my sensibilities about what should and should not be said in songs by a Christian singer, especially one who had been in Caedmon’s Call. However, the more I listened to songs like “Wedding Dress” (which uses the word “whore”) and “Beloved” and the title track, the more I thought, “I love this!” The music started a change in me.

Since 2003, Derek’s other albums—I See Things Upside Down, Mockingbird, and his latest, The Ringing Bell—have been in permanent music rotation. To me, this guy is a musical genius right up there with Bob Dylan and Reese Roper (Five Iron Frenzy, Brave Saint Saturn, Roper). So naturally, I wanted to see him perform live to drink in the whole picture. But every time I planned to see Derek Webb, there was a problem—the last which caused me to fly to Atlanta just to see a sold-out show that Derek played with his wife, Sandra McCracken. OK, so I was actually there for a youth conference, but I did twist my ankle walking back to the car after learning I wouldn’t see Derek yet again.

Perusing Derek Webb’s website, I made a startling discovery! Derek would be playing only 40 minutes away at Calvary Church. It was a sign! My time had finally come! But I didn’t believe I would really get to see him until I entered the doors of the church and heard Derek’s vocals resonating from behind closed doors. Apparently, he was giving the “postmodern” church service a taste of what was to come an hour later.

Low-key and dimly lit, the concert started a little after 8 PM with an opening performance by Derek’s friend, Joe Bassett. Finally, Derek took the stage in his typical white shirt/blue jeans ensemble. Singing at least one song from every album, he’s just as powerful in person as he is on his recordings. His set included “Nobody Loves Me,” “Love Is Not Against the Law,” “I Hate Everything (But You),” “I Wanna Marry You All Over Again,” “Savior on Capitol Hill” and one of my personal favorites, “Wedding Dress.”

Before performing “Name,” Derek mentioned that the song was the closet thing he’s ever had to a hit since starting his solo career. Featured on “Grey’s Anatomy,” the song was over a “two and a half minute montage of fornicating adulterers,” explained Derek with a slight hint of sarcastic wit. The crowd laughed nervously and Derek dived into his song. Talking about everything from the upcoming election to his wife, Derek wasn’t particularly loquacious, but he was charming as he picked songs on a whim.

For an hour, an audience was invited to depart from the worries of the world and get lost in songs about rethinking and reshaping the world. Derek made it sound not only believable, but encouraged that it was possible for us to help others experience God’s peace (shalom) on earth.

In fact, Derek’s so committed to social justice, easing the burden of the poor, and other causes, that he’s joining forces with Sara Groves, Brandon Heath, Sandra McCracken, and Charlie Peacock for the Art*Music*Justice Tour this fall. For more information, visit the tour’s site and make sure you get the chance to catch a show. Because as Brandon Heath said in a recent interview (read here), “Besides the fact that Derek Webb’s on it, Sandra McCracken, his wife, is on it, too. That’s the other reason you should go.” I agree wholeheartedly.

You should also check out Derek Webb’s other cause, NoiseTrade, a site that allows independent artists to freely disperse their music to listeners. By referring three friends to the site or donating an amount for an album, you can download an album from various artists including Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, Sixpence None the Richer, and Alli Rogers. You can also visit Derek’s fansite at DerekWebb.net (and, no, it’s not one of my secret sites on the side!)

(Nashville, Tennessee) – August 27, 2008 – Following the release of their first nationally distributed release, Wake the World (Trato Records), on August 19th, Christian pop trio BELOVED is reaching audiences nationwide and beyond through a successful media tour filled with numerous television appearances.

In the last month, BELOVED has appeared on some of Christian television’s biggest shows including Daystar Television Network’s Celebration, TCT Network’s REJOICE!, NRB Network’s Babbie’s House and Atlanta Live, FamilyNet’s Mornings with Lorri and Larry and Every Day with Marcus and Lisa, Body Builders and the popular morning show Live at 9 which airs on the CBS affiliate in Memphis, Tennessee. Additionally, the group is scheduled for upcoming appearances on The Good Life, Friends & Neighbors, CTN’s The Coffee Club, LeSEA Broadcasting’s The Harvest Show and Live From Studio B - a 30-minute live concert series taped before a studio audience.

REJOICE!

“BELOVED is a blend of harmony and humor, music and ministry delivered with a passion for Jesus and joy!” says Pastor Myles Holmes, host and producer of REJOICE! “BELOVED’s unique style will keep you laughing and learning as you relate to these women through their music, hilarious routines and real-life stories. Whether in concert, church service, women’s conference or world-wide television ministry, BELOVED is an experience and a breath of fresh air you will want to enjoy again and again.”

Babbie's House

“Not only did Beloved give a great performance, but it was evident that their ministry goes beyond the music to speak straight to the hearts of women,” says Trish Ragsdale, Executive Producer of FamilyNet’s EveryDay with Marcus and Lisa.

“BELOVED is a lot of fun,” says Lorri Allen, Producer and Host of FamilyNet’s Mornings with Lorri & Larry. “The women each have a fresh sound, a sense of humor and a heart for the Lord. We can’t wait to have them back!”

An equal mix of Point of Grace, Anita Renfroe and Bette Midler, BELOVED connects with audiences instantly through relational humor and infectious encouragement. The trio wrote 9 of the 11 tracks on Wake the World, including the first radio single, “Love God, Serve Others,” which was produced by GRAMMY® Award winner Mac Powell of Third Day. The remainder of the album was produced in Atlanta by John Carrozza (Boyz II Men, Babbie Mason).

Such is the busy life of a musician on the precipice of releasing his latest project, What If We (Reunion). Despite his hectic life, Brandon was eager to chat about his sophomore album and social justice.

Since our last interview (read Brandon Heath :: Missional Musician), Brandon moved from Nashville to Houston, accepting the position of worship leader at The Loft. “They just invited me to come. I felt like God was calling me to do it.” He then adds, “It seems very atypical. It just doesn’t seem like the traditional route to go when you’re trying to launch a career, but for some reason, it made sense.” Then again, Brandon’s never been a traditional musician.

He began his career writing songs for artists such as Bebo Norman and Matt Wertz. Recording an album of his own wasn’t on Brandon’s radar. When producer and friend Dan Muckala heard Brandon perform the Dove Award nominated song “Our God Reigns” the first time, he urged Brandon to record his first album, Don’t Get Comfortable. This project launched Brandon into the spotlight with several Dove Award nominations and the prestigious honor of winning “New Artist of the Year.”

Building on the successes of “Don’t Get Comfortable,” Brandon continues to do things that challenge him musically, as evidenced by the album’s first single, “Give Me Your Eyes.” Written after people-watching in an airport, the song is fused with a slight hip-hop sound, a definite departure from Brandon’s easy folk vocals. When asked if fans were jolted by the new sound, Brandon laughs replying, “I knew people would be a little surprised. If you listen to it two or three times, it’s like, OK, I can see Brandon doing this. I had to think about myself doing it actually. I thought, can I do this? Then the more I thought about it, I was like, yeah, I can do this.” Musing a moment, like he often does during the interview, Brandon adds, “It’s good to take risks.”

Risk seems to be a way of life for Brandon, who has traveled to India with his friend and mentor, Bob Goff of Restore International, and to Uganda with Blood:Water Mission. He is also joining Sara Groves, Derek Webb, Sandra McCracken, and Charlie Peacock this fall for the Art*Music*Justice Tour. Talking about our mutual love of Derek Webb’s music, I ask Brandon why people should check out the tour. He quips, “Besides the fact that Derek Webb’s on it, Sandra McCracken, his wife, is on it, too. That’s the other reason you should go.”

After a moment of banter, Brandon explains why he chose to tour with some of his songwriting heroes this fall. “This tour fits me so perfectly. It’s about issues that really are a burden for me to pray for and to ask other people to think about—human trafficking and figuring out how to handle the problem of human slavery in the world. It should not still exist.”

He passionately continues, “It exists because of corrupt governments, poverty, and greed. How do we figure out how to make it go away? I’m ready to see justice happen and to see people healed. This is my way of contributing to the education and hopefully, the actions of others.”

Before hitting the road in September, Brandon will once again travel with Bob Goff to Uganda. Having already visited, Brandon is eager to return. He will be spending time learning about those who reside in huge Internally Displaced Person (IDP, formerly refugee) camps. “They’re supposed to be temporary, but they’re not,” shares Brandon. “The people are literally living on top of one another.” The trip involves investigating ways the government of Uganda and others can help IDP’s move into villages and sustain a living outside of the camps.

Not only does Brandon want to inspire others with social justice through his travels, but he wants to offer hope through songwriting. While traveling, touring, and leading worship, Brandon keeps writing songs. Besides the new hip-hip groove on “What If We,” the album uses rougher guitar sounds and gruffer vocals, inspired by Brandon’s recent Western movie viewing, which is evidenced by his biographical song, “Wait and See”. To achieve this acoustic, Brandon shares, “Little known fact: all of my vocals were recorded in a bathroom—in the bathroom at my producer’s studio.” It’s this sort of innovation that make Muckala one of Nashville’s most sought-after producers. Really.

Besides dishing on bathroom vocals, Brandon also discusses the benefits of international marriage. “If you marry someone from another country, you get dual citizenship… but that’s probably not a good reason to get married.”

The single 30 year-old musician admits that being unmarried can make his travels lonely at times. “There are days when I’m really content doing what I’m doing because I know I’m in a season where God’s got me on the road. Honestly, if I was married, I would want to be home; I wouldn’t want to be gone.”

Using his more signature sound, Brandon conveys his thoughts about solitude in “When I’m Alone.” Yet there are days when he feels the sting of being a bachelor. “On the other hand, you want to share your life with somebody. The other day I had a guy who’s 25 pat me on the back and say, ‘You’ll understand someday.’ It made my skin crawl.”

Just because he’s not married, doesn’t mean that Brandon isn’t a romantic, at least when it comes to writing songs. What If We features a few love songs, including the heart-wrenching, “London.” Brandon explains, “I wrote it with Chad Cates, but it’s really about his experience in London, missing his fiancée.” Then there’s “Listen Up,” a song in which a man comes to the realization that he didn’t hear his beloved’s heart when she was talking about her troubles. “To me, it’s like we [men] end up talking too much. The truth is, we don’t know what to say so we say dumb things that get us in trouble,” says Brandon, explaining the mystery of why men make insensitive remarks to distraught women.

A huge Jars of Clay fan, Brandon was excited to co-write “Sore Eyes” with the band. “They play all the instruments and background vocals; I’m just doing lead vocals.” The song was written about a sassy girl who seemed to be down all the time. “I don’t think she was really sad, but she thought that kind of demeanor worked for her.”

Slightly darker is “Sunrise,” a song inspired by the movie, No Country For Old Men. Brandon even wanted the lyrics and sound to mimic the movie. “The song is about people who stay awake all night and wonder, ‘How long until I die?’ It’s really about fear and being afraid. Sometimes the dark is the scariest time, but light give us a little hope because we can see the situation for what it is.”

It’s this light that Brandon hopes to shine on social justice, fueled by ministry and music as conduits for change. Not just social change, but personal change—both topics on which he is particularly loquacious. Like all good things, our dialogue came to an end, with Brandon rushing off to do a sound check with his band—at least 10 minutes behind schedule.

Chris Tomlin - Hello Love

I am not sure if Chris Tomlin is a coffee drinker but I am, too much I think sometimes. I like the taste of coffee, I drink it in the morning to start my day and have no problem having a cup right before bed without.. Sorry.. this isn’t about coffee… it’s about Chris Tomlin.

OK, let me go back to coffee for just a moment. I was going to take Chris Tomlin to the gym but I was really looking forward to hearing what was new, so I opted for Saturday morning coffee with him. I am really glad I did not put this off until later in the day. (the editor is making me put this in: I did not actually have coffee WITH Chris Tomlin, I did have coffee though and a Chris Tomlin CD. I think its just splitting hairs but whatever)

Not stopping for a moment after his 3rd Dove Award for Male Vocalist of the Year, his 2006 RIAA Gold-certified record “See The Morning” and touring on Passion’s first world tour, Chris Tomlin releases his 5th studio album “Hello Love” on Sept 2nd.

Chris Tomlin knows how to create songs, not just songs you can enjoy, songs that you can sing with all your heart as if you wrote them yourself. With “Hello Love” Tomlin has once again shown he truly understands what it is to worship and has put together another outstanding collection of songs. Tomlin puts to words and music true feelings and helps bring our focus to the greatest love of all, His everlasting love.

“Worship is a massive word with a very broad scope, but in the end, it is very simple. It is love! It’s our response in love to our great God who loved us first.” - Chris Tomlin

Through songs like “Jesus Messiah”, “Sing, Sing, Sing” and “God Of This City” we are reintroduced to our Savior and reminded of His love, His power and His glory. While songs like “I Will Rise”, “With Me”, and “All The Way My Savior Leads Me” are very personal tracks that empower you with the strength to move forward knowing that He is by your side.

The first single released from the “Hello Love” CD, “Jesus Messiah” has already started a buzz as the most added multi-format song in Christian radio history and No. 1 on the iTunes Christian Charts. In listening to the rest of the CD I can tell you first hand that you can expect more great things to come.

As Jon Rivers, music director KLOVE Radio Network puts it so well, “Chris seems unable to pen a bad or even mediocre song. It is always simply spectacular.”

I am sure he is quite honored with the awards and well deserved accolades but his driving force is much more important than that.

“With each new record, I continue to strive to create songs that will help people voice their worship to God.” - Chris Tomlin

With “Hello Love” he does what he has set out to accomplish. As for the great reviews and all, I can only guess that it is just creamer in the coffee.

Nashville, Tennessee) – August 26, 2008 – SHOUTFEST, Christian music’s most ambitious annual youth ministry driven one-day rock concert event, will have the strongest lineup in its six year tour history, with performances by such headlining artists as Third Day, Reliant K, Newsboys, Thousand Foot Krutch, Family Force 5, Sixpence None the Richer, Starfield and Trin-i-tee 5:7. More than 25 bands and solo artists will perform at one or more of the festival events unfolding on two live stages in three U.S. cities.

Other artists set to perform at one or more of the events are Grits, DecembeRadio, This Beautiful Republic, After Edmund, Jason Morant, Mission Six, Between the Trees, Nevertheless, I Am Terrified, Revive, Magellan from Club DreamLab, One Minute Halo, Say You Will, Manic Drive, British band The Steels, Gabriela Hindy, One Friday, JJ Weeks, comedian Bob Smiley, The Biggest Loser’s Dan Evans and Compassion International speaker Brad Duncan.

“SHOUTFEST is more than another Christian event or rock concert — we consider it to be a real ministry opportunity for the local church,” notes producer Van Hohe. “Our overall goal is to lose the title ‘tour’ and transform this into a tool that local churches and youth leaders can use to raise awareness and impact lives for Christ, ultimately leaving each market with a lot of young lives closer to God’s Kingdom and in a relationship with local ministries who will be there in the days and weeks following when those kids start to encounter real issues. This puts the focus where it should be — on the local church.”

SHOUTFEST has partnered with ministry sponsor Book of Hope USA who is providing concert goers a free book and online tools that give insight into overcoming the growing struggles of today’s youth. Hohe says, “Our deep relationship with Book of Hope USA and others continues to build on the concept of making this thing a tool of the local church. How many young people are literally dying inside all the while thinking that no one in their day-to-day lives could ever truly understand what they are going through? This is why I do what I do. We are here to equip the local church with relevant information and resources as well as providing a killer rock show.”

In addition to Book of Hope USA, author Renee Yohe will be at SHOUTFEST New Orleans to share her journey out of depression which has become an online sensation with the “To Write Love On Her Arms” website. Other ministry sponsors this year include global poverty relief organization Compassion International, The Conquerers and the all-new Oral Roberts University.

REMEDY DRIVE ANTICIPATES RELEASE OF DAYLIGHT IS COMING AUG.26
Band Signs Booking Agreement with William Morris Agency; Debut Video Claims No. 1 Spot on TVU

(NASHVILLE, Tenn.) Aug. 19, 2008—Four-brother band and new Word recording artist Remedy Drive anticipates the release of its national label debut, Daylight Is Coming, Aug. 26. In addition to finding favor with top-notch booking agency, the William Morris Agency, Remedy Drive is experiencing phenomenal feedback from fans, who voted its first music video, “Daylight,” to No. 1 on TVU’s “Most Wanted.”

After four years on the road as an independent artist, Remedy Drive will team up with renowned talent agency, the William Morris Agency. Mark Claassen, agent, comments, “We’re really excited to be teaming up with Remedy Drive! They put so much effort into their energetic show that everyone leaves excited and encouraged. After listening to the CD, seeing them perform, and hearing their hearts for music and ministry, we felt like all the elements were there for a long-term thriving career.”

And in its short time on the national Christian music scene, Remedy Drive has already proven its staying power. Last week, the band’s debut music video, “Daylight,” was voted to No. 1 on TVU, a nationwide, 24/7 music video television network. The video will additionally be available to fans across the country through Interlinc. To view the video online, visit: www.myspace.com/remedydrive.

TVU’s program director and music director Nikki Cantu remarks, “Remedy Drive hitting No. 1 on our TMW Show for TVU is no surprise to us. The viewers absolutely love the video and have fallen in love with the band!”

Produced by 2008 GMA Dove Awards Producer of the Year Ian Eskelin, Daylight Is Coming showcases Remedy Drive’s high-energy, piano-driven rock sound. The album is winning with old and new fans alike not only via exposure of its music video but also at radio, as Remedy Drive’s current single “Daylight” moves up the CHR chart.

David (vocals, keys, guitar), Philip (bass, vocals), Paul (guitar, vocals), and Daniel Zach (drums) originally began playing together in college around Lincoln, Nebraska. It wasn’t until 2003 that the band now known as Remedy Drive ventured outside its stomping grounds into territory spanning the Midwest and West Coast. In the last two years, Remedy Drive has performed more than 200 shows annually, including concerts at festivals, colleges, camps, conferences and churches. The band’s indie release, Rip Open the Skies (2005), has sold more than 20,000 copies to date.

Keeping that pace, the band recently wrapped the spring 2008 “LifeLight Tour” with Building 429 and Bread of Stone. This summer, Remedy Drive appeared at major festivals including Spirit West Coast Del Mar, Spirit West Coast Monterey, Crossover, Ichthus, and Higher Ground. The band continues on the road this month playing Lifelight, Rock the Light as well as other performances and youth camps. For more information about Remedy Drive, visit www.remedydrive.com.

Word Records is a part of Word Label Group, a division of Word Entertainment, a Warner/Curb company. The artist roster heralds some of today’s top Christian music performers and songwriters including Mark Schultz, Point Of Grace, Building 429, Nicole C. Mullen and Stellar Kart. The Word Label Group leads the industry with over 50 years of music-making history.

Hymned Again

What do you get when you take a handful of classic hymns, put them in a studio with a passionate Christian artist with a soulful voice, and add a dash of some of the top studio musicians in the industry?

You get a recipe for a big ‘ole plate of Hymned Again.

Following up his 2005 solo project Hymned, Bart Millard returns with a new twist on some classic hymns and a new original track that has the potential to become a classic on its own. Hymned Again hits the streets on August 19th with Millard returning to his youth, delivering the songs that inspired him and passing them along to those who may not be familiar with these classics.

With unique arraignments, Hymned Again brings these hymns to a new light with deep respect for the original form. The one original track on the CD “Jesus Cares For Me” was written by Millard and Thad Cockrell. This song features Vince Gill in a duet with Millard that if you didn’t know it, you would think they found it somewhere in an old hymnal.

In a recent interview Millard talked about his first CD being inspired by his grandmother and the hymns she used to sing. He decided to release Hymned Again so that these songs, like his previous release would be part of his own kids’ childhood as well.

“These are songs that were a huge part of my upbringing, and now they are a part of my kids’ as well, so I had to do another one! And, true to form, they already have the new album memorized too.” - Bart Millard

Other standout tracks on the CD are “Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus” with a great dixieland sound, “Grace That Is Greater”, with heartfelt vocals and a ukulele that had me playing along with my triangle and “I Stand Amazed” a duet with Christy Nockles that was the first single from this CD released early this summer.

With a mix of New Orleans Jazz, Blues, 70’s R&B and Bluegrass and Country, you can hear that this CD was probably just as enjoyable to make as it is to listen to and if you have a look around the Mercyme website at the videos and postings Millard has made you can see that this is true.

If hymns were a part of your own childhood or you are just hearing them for the first time, I guarantee you will find yourself singing them throughout the day, smiling and feeling the warmth of the words coming over you.

On another note I just wanted to take a moment to mention that a part of the proceeds from Hymned Again will benefit the JDRF through Imagine A Cure. Imagine A Cure is a non-profit organization setup by Bart Millard to help find a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
