Third Day Revelation

Third Day Revelation

I am writing this review of Third Day’s new album Revelation because they are making me. Well, that’s not entirely true but they do have this contest going on their website where they will select a winner for an autographed copy of Revelation.

OK, again… I am stretching the truth a bit. I am writing this album review because, honestly, it rocks!

Unless you have been living on a pomegranate farm (I am sure they have those, but I wonder where they are? BRB, Google…..) for the past few weeks, Third Day has been everywhere - from the cover of Billboard magazine to a performance on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and concerts and interviews in between. Follow guitarist Mark Lee on Twitter you will see the journal of planes, trains and automobiles (If you run into him on the street I would steer clear of discussing riding in a van). I would also like to state at this time I believe Mark Lee could possibly be responsible for the next major outage of Twitter.

But I digress. Back to the review. Revelation showcases Third Day’s ability to deliver powerful messages wrapped in song, this album’s strong melodies with heartfelt lyrics and a return to their roots in southern rock/pop, new collaboration partners like Chris Daughtry, Lacey Mosely of Flyleaf and producer Howard Benson (P.O.D., Flyleaf, Gavin DeGraw, Relient K) make it more difficult for you to decide “What is your favorite Third Day song?” With Revelation, well it’s like a Big Ol’ Nuclear Hoedown (sorry that always cracks me up).

Today I found myself after searching all these years
And the man that I saw wasn’t at all who I thought he’d be
I was lost when you found me here
I was broken beyond repair
Then you came along and sang your song over me
Feels like I’m born again, feels like I’m living
For the very first time in my life…. Born Again - Third Day

From beginning to end of this album Third Day shines. While “Call My Name,” the first single off the album, has launched with a strong start and fueled the “Christian Crossover” fires again (see Tai Anderson’s blog for his thoughts and Tai, I agree with you 100%) tracks like Born Again (ft. Flyleaf’s Lacey Mosley) remind me of the message from songs like Casting Crowns’ “East to West” about strength and faith, and leave no doubt that this band is a talented Christ centered band and the crossover appeal is just an after effect of the hard work, heart and soul that is Third Day Revelation.

With the reassuring voice of Mac Powell on tracks like “Call My Name”, “Run to You” and “This is Who I Am” let you know that it is okay to have questions on your journey and those questions are just God’s way of showing you something new and exciting is to come if you trust in Him to guide you.

Overall Revelation is what we have come to expect from the Third Day team and perhaps their strongest album to date. Look for more hit singles off this album and perhaps another trip to the Grammy Awards.

Check out Third Day Revelation and make sure to catch them out on tour with Switchfoot, Robert Randolph & The Family Band and Jars of Clay for the Music That Builds Tour.

Make sure you bring your light saber and oh - I almost forgot - I found some pomegranite farms in Austrailia.

Christopher is a Christian, husband, graphic designer, web programmer, photographer, ninja, poet, cat whisperer (though I think my own cats don't speak English). I tend to write as it comes out so I keep the editor quite busy. I have the grammar skills of a Nerf football but it makes sense if you read it over a few times.
